Leather Pistol Holder

When you are purchasing a leather pistol holder, you will want to take great care in making your choice. Each purchase should be made on an individual basis and personal preference. You should also buy according to whichever purpose you are going to be using the pistol holder. It truly will make a difference in ease of use and will mean the difference of you being happy with your purchase or miserable because you bought the wrong holster for the job. You should be aware that there are three main categories when it comes to pistol holders. Each category is as unique as the purpose in which it serves. Knowing the difference between these will save you any future headaches that will come from improper use of your pistol holder.

Duty Holster

The duty holster will be found on a person for whom concealment is not important or needed. These gun holsters are generally used by law enforcement and military personnel. In law enforcement, the leather pistol holder will generally mesh with the uniform of the officer. They are often treated with shoe polish and the appearance of the holster is generally of a high quality. In the case of military personnel, the leather holster is generally made to appear camouflaged either in color or material. In either case, these pistol holders are used for mid-sized to full-sized pistols. Smaller guns are generally used in concealed holsters and are generally not necessary for the regular police or military personnel.

Concealment Holster

A concealment holster is specially designed to be lightweight. These holsters are unobtrusive and are designed for a compact pistol. They are gun holsters which are specially designed to be worn beneath the clothing and will be found on a belt beneath a coat or at the ankle beneath the pant leg. They are also sometimes found in a pocket of the pants that are worn by the carrier. These holsters will often have a rougher nap or surface. This is to help when withdrawing the pistol and provide a retention of the holster that is better.

Sporting Holster

This category has the widest range of pistol holsters within it. These holsters may be found with a maximum level of protection when being used in hunting. They also come in varieties that are used for pinshooting and of course there are the simple holsters used in the less formal sport of target practice. The most specialized holsters will be found in use by the more competitive sports. The holsters which are used in hunting tend to be the most unique holsters. These holsters are specially designed to carry the pistols which are the largest. These holsters must also provide room for any sights which are telescopic in nature. Often these pistol holders will be slung across the shoulder as they are holding such large pistols. The pistol holder is then removed from the body before the pistol is drawn for use. This is acceptable because the pistol is generally not used in a defensive manner, nor is it expected to be used in such a manner.

When you understand the differences of each leather pistol holder, it really makes your purchase decision easier and you will be pleased with your purchase.
